    Halo 5: Guardians information dump!

    Post  Shad0wChas3r on May 16th 2014, 6:26 pm

This thread was initially intended for posting a link to the recently announced Halo 5 article. But instead, this thread could be made with any Halo 5: Guardians news and speculation as we get closer to it's arrival.

    The Article

There isn't very much to go on with this, except for the fact that Halo 5: Guardians isn't coming out until Fall of 2015, as was previously speculated when the game was first announced back at E3 of 2013.

We also now know that Steven Spielberg's Television Series 'Halo' will be arriving at some point next year as well, which will coincide with the fifth game in the main Story-arch.

Also, as noticed by some individuals over at Halo Waypoint, the Spartan in the image in the article has an ONI symbol on their armor somewhere.

This could mean one of three things:

1: It's Master Chief, but in new kicks.

2: It's a previously announced character/a character that is yet to come.

3: It's a previously announced character/ a character that is yet to come that is charged by ONI to hunt down the rogue Spartan *i.e Master Chief*

Strangely enough, no-one has yet speculated on what the ONI Spook in the beginning of Halo 4 and Halsey had been discussing; a replacement of the Chief.

In my opinion, I believe it is said replacement that Halsey feared the Spook was talking about in the beginning of Halo 4. It only strengthens my guess further, if you look at Spartan Ops' ending, and what happens with the friendly neighborhood Dr. Halsey. If that wasn't enough, what of the ONI symbol on this new Spartan's armor?

The ONI wouldn't just send ANY Spartan down to hunt the Legendary one, no, they would only choose the Chief's true replacement. At first, I thought it might have been the Director of ONI. But it would be stupid of her to risk her neck and everything Parangosky had left her with, so that is completely out of the question.

Furthermore, it couldn't be Cortana, or even Palmer, as Frank O'Conner himself has stated that; 'The Spartan in the teaser wallpaper is not Palmer, nor is he a female.'

This leads me to believe that my theory of it being an ONI Spartan charged with replacing Chief, and perhaps even eliminating him, as correct. Because as I said before, it would make little sense for ONI to send a normal Infinity Spartan-IV to hunt down the most notorious and highly regarded Spartan-II.

But why do I keep mentioning Chief being 'hunted'? We all watched the teaser video at E3 last year *if you didn't, check the other thread in the Announcements part of the site*, why was Chief wearing a cloak?

Frank O'Conner revealed that the Chief wouldn't just wear a cloak for the hell of it, stating 'While it was convenient for our Teaser trailer, the Chief is wearing the cloak to purposefully mask his identity.'

This, again, leads me to believe that the Head of ONI, after the events of Halo 4, ordered Chief to be debriefed, especially after the loss of Cortana in the battle for Earth 2.0.

Unwilling to retire until he found closure, I'm sure the Chief flees with just enough ammo and supplies to last him on his search. With an asset so dangerous, ONI would not want Chief, if he is rogue, to potentially turn on the UNSC.

    ----------------------------

So now that I've talked to death about my predictions for Halo 5, what about the now?

There wasn't much to go by in the article, except for the interesting term; 'Journey'. As was previously speculated, my guess is the game that will be announced to release this year will be Halo 2: Anniversary.

Or at least that's what my conformist side would say. In truth, I honestly hope it would be something off the beaten path. Perhaps it could be a game about your Spartan IV doing some missions from the Infinity, a game that would lead up to the events of Halo 5.

Perhaps they might include a Halo 2 Anniversary with multiplayer on the side, but I'm personally hoping for the prior. I'd much rather have a game where 'Blaine' could be the main character, like he was in Halo Reach.

With all of this said, I guess we won't know until June 9th, but please feel free to share you own ideas, or if you find an article before I do, please post it here!

The guy's visor has this forerunner-ish look to it. I wonder if that means anything.

I mean, it kindof has the shape of the OG Promethan visor, seen in the terminals. No other Halo 4 helmet has that kind of of visor. Not even Prefect, which is suppose to be based of Forerunner tech.

It's possible the Prefects weren't a warrior caste, and that this new Spartan has a cutting edge suit derived from a Forerunner suit actually made for combat.

The rest of the suit seems different in design from the Halo 4 ones. However this may be a graphics change.

Looks like Gen 2 armor to me. Looks like they're implementing more captured forerunner tech into it tho.

So I was lucky to have today off from work, and I was actually able to connect my ONE to the Xbox coverage at E3 today.

Needless to say, as I sat there for an hour and a half, anxiously awaiting further news for the Halo universe all of us love and hold so close to ourselves. My patience was rewarded, and that is no understatement.

First, I was greeted with the all memorable Monk Chanting that had been prevalent in the series up until now, followed by the sound of metal being dragged upon metal.

Yes, that's right, I'm referring to the Iconic Halo 2 scene where Master Chief, in all his legendary glory, gave the Covenant back their crudely wrapped present. That isn't all, however, as I watch the coveted Spartan pull down the lever to cascade himself and the ticking time bomb, a familiar, chilling voice takes over the narration.

The narrator is talking to someone, not the viewer of the video, but someone else. It is then that a blue visor appears, the same blue visor we had seen, not even a week ago, in the wallpaper for Halo 5: Guardians.

The narrator tells the Spartan, named 'Locke', that finding the legendary warrior will take much more than following his footsteps. That the universe is in danger, and that the seeds to our future, are sewn in HIS past.

    The video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPGPiSpTw4w
    -----------------------------------

My Reaction: So... it hasn't really cleared up if this... Agent Clunk/Locke is searching for Chief to help him... or to HUNT him.

We do know, however, just by the voice, that the Arbiter is assisting this new Spartan to locate the Master Chief, who is out doing his thing.

We know this, of course, because of the reflection of the elite in the new Spartan's blue visor in a silver set of armor, with a 'blade' sticking over his brow, much like an Arbiter's.

Following this teaser trailer, a representative from 343 Industries comes along to officially announce a bundle so relatively awesome, I'm STILL cleaning my brains off of the walls and carpet as I'm simultaneously typing this.

Announcing the Master Chief Collection! For just $60 US, you get the following:

    MC Collection itself:
    -November 11th release for $60
    -Halo CEA, 2A, 3, and 4 campaign
-100 Maps from past halo titles along with their own gamemodes from their respective games(yes you can play classic CE)
-Custom, matchmaking and Spartan ops modes all supported. One blu ray, one UI. Forge and theater will also work.
-1080p 60 FPS with Dedicated Servers
-Custom playlists that allow you to string together missions across multiple games
-The team is currently constructing a stats/leveling system to match across all four games that will be similar to Halo 2.
-2 Player Spit Screen for Campaign and 4 Player Split Screen for MP
    -4000 Gamerscore
-Access to Halo 5 Beta in December
-New Digital feature from Ridley Scott titles Halo: Nightfall

    Combat Evolved:
Play campaign in original 2001 graphics or updated 1080p visuals
Play original Halo: CE multiplayer online for the first time

    Halo 2 Anniversary:
    -Full Anniversary treatment, including terminals
-New prologue and epilogue cutscenes that tie into Halo 5
-All original multiplayer maps – including all DLC maps (23 total)
-Most multiplayer tricks and glitches should still work
-Also includes six “reimagined” Halo 2 maps running on a native Xbox One engine
    -Screenshots(scroll down)

    For Halo 3 and 4
-No Anniversary-style engines for Halo 3 or Halo 4
-Forge and Saved Films seemed to be confirmed(see above)

    Halo 5:
-Spartan Abilities do not mean Armor Abilities
-Beta is December 27th, 2014 as confirmed here

What's more? Pre-Order from Gamestop and get the Bandanna Skull for use! Infinite ammo and grenades when activated!

Or Pre-Order from Amazon and get the Pinata skull, grunts/enemies will drop Plasma Grenades upon Melee!

Overall, I'm very pleased with what I've seen and discovered about this, and I think it's fair to say that I'm going straight to either Amazon/GameStop to pre-order my copy now.

    Please post below your thought's/reactions!

...I heard Xbox One went down in price. The PS4 has also risen in price in Canada.

I'm glad I waited. PS4 was, and still is better, in many regards. But the gap may be small enough now for Halo to bridge. I don't even play games that much anymore so I doubt I'd care enough about the graphics and frame rate and what not.

If only they'd get rid of Kinect...

ALSO, was the Elite on the guy's visor the Arbiter, or Jul? He didn't look like the Arbiter and looked more like Jul.

I'm also led to believe that this new Spartan might save Chief. Arbiter is sending him, and I don't think Arby would want to harm Chief.

And that line where the seeds of our future lie in his past? Kinda reminds me of what the librarian said; "you are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning"... Or something like that.

Possible connection (besides Chief being super important)?

They did get rid of the Kinect xD ! It also reduces the price by a hundred US dollars. I dunno if Canada has it, but I'm sure you guys will get it soon.

The Elite is most definitely Arbiter, as the silver headpiece is that of the Arbiter, and they used Keith David for his voice. Jul 'Mdama shares the voice actor of the Didact, which I assure you, is not Keith David.

As for the new Spartan, the reason I ask is, assuming you follow the Kilo trilogy, ONI has it out for the Elites anyways. If the Elites following Thel think that Chief is the pinnacle for survival for all, they will most likely be sending this Spartan to pretend to be allied with Thel for info.

Again, the possibilities are endless. 343 likes to throw curveballs, look at Cortana, who honestly expected that? Is that the case for this? Who knows, we'll find out next year. In my opinion, I don't think so, but again, you NEVER know.

Very excited for the Master Chief Collection, also.  It's exhilarating to even think about being able to rekindle all that built up lust I have for all that multiplayer.

    Oh yeah, I'm back boys.

Wherever you feel comfortable Razz . But you really don't need to explain to us, one of our Golden rules is that you aren't forced to post here Razz .

I'm just glad we have more friendly faces around here, for a time there, I was truly afraid this place was gonna die. Anyways, let's move this discussion over to the Discuss Anything thread on the left side of the page, and reserve this for more Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: Master Chief Collection information Very Happy !

Sincerely though, it is great to have you back, and I'm embarrassed to say this, but I think I might've accidentally deleted you on Xbox. But we can talk more about that in the other thread.

    Link here:
    Spoiler:
    http://news.xbox.com/~/media/images/media%20assets/xbox%20one%20games/halo%205%20guardians/20150428%20key%20art/halo5_keyart_horiz_final.jpg?h=529&w=940

This... this right here is the Cover Art for Halo 5: Guardians. This right here... has all but confirmed everything I speculated on in this thread. The Chief is being hunted by Commander Jameson Locke for being a 'traitor' to the UNSC.

But who are those Spartans in the bottom left and bottom right hand corners?

I can tell you that they are Spartans that we the fans have been waiting a VERY long time to see finally get put into the games. Firstly, let us begin with the bottom right, saving the left for last.

We don't know who the mysterious fourth Spartan is *check the provided link for the full image*, but it has been confirmed that newly dubbed Spartans Romeo and Buck *yep, the ODSTs* are joining Commander Locke in his hunt for Master Chief. The fourth Spartan could be Mason, the woman he was with in Nightfall, or it could be someone else featured in Halo: Bloodlines. We don't know at this time.

    But then.. who are the Spartans on the bottom left, under the giant Spartan Locke? Well, it's simple really;

Master Chief is leading them, and each one is confirmed to be a Spartan II. How many canonical Spartan IIs are alive, and still in service? You can count them on your hands. It's been confirmed, that the three Spartans you see beside Chief in the bottom left, are none other than Spartan Blue team.

I'm talking Fred, Kelly, and Linda, and that excites the fuck out of me. Before anyone say's ; "Morgan, don't speculate with me."

It's confirmed by Frank O'Connor that those three Spartans are Fred, Linda, and Kelly. Spartan Blue Team is looking out for each other. Whether or not they'll be playable for Chief's portion of the Campaign is to be determined, as with Buck, Romeo, etc. Personally, I think that'd be badass, but knowing all Halos *except 3*, you play as a clone of Chief/Arby.

So yeah, sink into the awesomeness that is this image. I was skeptical at first, but Halo 5 is really starting to peak my interest again.

    HNNNG!

    BLUE TEAM MOFOS!

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!

Somewhat sad that I ended up getting the PS4 but at this point... I'm just interested in Halo's story. Maybe I'll Youtube it, but it won't be quite the same since I can't say "remember [playable part of campaign] that was SO hard to beat".

Then again, I could get a used Xbox One. Or play it at a friend's house, since some of them get Xbox Ones.

I WILL get my Halo fix without bowing down to Microsoft!
