Just a thread to keep all profiles of Legionnaires together, and to not spam the writer's roundtable. If you have any questions/feedback though, feel free to post there or in the "discuss anything" thread.

I'd also like to set a challenge for myself. If you'd like to create a Legionnaire then go ahead using the template below (add or subtract things as you wish). I've never been the best at using other people's characters but I'd like to push myself in that regard. So if you create a character I'll give them a go every once in a while. If I really like the character who knows? They might go from occasional cameo to a recurring character or even a regular. No guarantees though.

    Legion Roster Empty Manuel-324

    Post  Manny February 13th 2018, 1:11 am

    Basic Information
    Military Classification: Manuel-324
    Current Legal Name: Manuel-324
    Birth Name: Manuel Alejandro [REDACTED]
    Alias: Demon, Assassin, General
    Birthdate: March 24, 2531
Birth Place: Canada, North American Republic, Earth
Species: Human (augmented Spartan II super soldier)
    Affiliation: UNSC, ONI, Legion

    Physical Description
    Ethnicity: Hispanic
Eye Color: Dark brown, seems almost black
    Hair Color: Black
    Height: 6’10
    Weight:
Prominent Features: Tends to have a serious expression on face most of the time, even when he’s not in a serious mood.

    Equipment
Primary weapon: Hybrid of the battle and assault rifles
    Secondary weapon: Magnum
    Other: Energy Trident
Armour Class: MJOLNIR Gen 2, Achilles variant
    Armour Helmet: Achilles
    Armour Color: Black, red visor
Armour Markings: Small Legion emblems on his shoulders
    Details:
Previously Manuel wore the ODST variant of both MJOLNIR generations. With generation 1 his color scheme was red and white, with a gold visor. With generation two he switched to black armour with a red visor.

    Relevant Combat Data
    Specialty: Counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, infiltration, assassination
Notable Combat Data: Manuel has grown more aggressive over the years, taking less and less prisoners. His aggression has yet to impede his ability to complete a mission, and so it was believed he could handle the Achilles armour.

    Basic Personality Traits
Disposition: If one were to summarize Manuel in a few words they would be serious, smart, professional, a bit stubborn, a little bit competitive, and slow to open up to strangers.
Political Alignment: UNSC, Legion, seems to have some sympathy for Sapien Sunrise.
Notable Traits: Slow to open up but known to care fiercely for a select few. Recently underwent amnesia and so seeks out people who knew him in the past (previously he would avoid the subject).
Goals: Seeks to secure Humanity’s future safety
Fears: Failure, Humanity’s extinction, being unable to recover his memories

    Analysis:

Manuel’s story is one that involves traumatic loss at a young age, and as a result he clings to things that give his life order and purpose. Therefore life outside of military service is terrifying to him; he will not admit this because he is unaware of this phobia. There has never been a need for him to seriously consider a life beyond war due to his status as a Spartan and Humanity’s ongoing conflict against the Covenant species. His loyalty to the Legion, as opposed to simply the UNSC, stems from multiple factors.

    1. An almost zealous belief in the Legion’s ideology which states that Humanity will only be truly safe once all threats have crushed. This reason is the most recent one, having arisen as the ideology did during the post war years.
    2. Loyalty to fellow Spartans in the Legion because they are the closest thing he has to family. While relations with some have been strained at times, the collective history these Spartans can never be erased.
    3. Walter is the father figure of all Spartans in the Legion, including Manuel. Initially this was driving force behind Manuel’s loyalty but it waned throughout the years. However, as much as Manuel would hate to admit, it does linger somewhat in the back of his mind.

While the importance of these factors, relative to each other, have changed throughout Manuel’s life his personality has remained fairly consistent. In general he is level headed, professional, and serious with a bit of stubborness and competitiveness mixed in. He takes great pride in not only completing his work but also the quality with which he does. He also firmly believes in the concept of laws, orders, and rules so very rarely will he deviate from them. However at times he can demonstrate the stubborn and competitive sides to him, but he generally keeps this under control should he feel it interferes with orders. A good example of this is that Manuel rarely feels the need to be a leader; he is content to follow when he feels that his leader is competent. If Manuel feels no one is qualified in the absence of a leader, or that the current leader is incompetent, he will take charge to ensure the objective is met. The rarest side of Manuel you can see is him making a sarcastic comment or humorous observation. Manuel is slow to open up to strangers so if you see this side of them then he clearly trusts you a great deal even if he may never outright say so.

The most interesting aspect of Manuel may be that he can be altruistically inclined and yet also lack sympathy. There a fairly obvious filter Manuel has in deciding who is on the receiving end of each behaviour, with people falling into one of two categories. Those he considers in need of his protection or his allies will see his altruistic inclination while those he considers his enemies will receive no sympathy from him; should Manuel think you have switched categories then his behaviour will abruptly change with you. With his new zealous embrace of Legion ideology, it seems he considers only Humans his allies and charges while the Covenant species are his enemies. Alien allies make Manuel uneasy as he finds it hard to forgive what they have done, but he will follow orders to stand down. On the other hand Human enemies are a source of great frustration for Manuel, as he has an almost naive belief that the alien threat should be enough to reunite Humanity, but once again he will follow orders (in a regretful manner).

While Manuel’s personality has remained more or less the same, his behaviour has differed throughout his life. There are three broad periods Manuel’s life could be split into: his early life with the Legion, his time with ONI, and his return to the Legion. Each period is punctuated by certain events, vastly affecting Manuel’s behaviour through magnification or minimization of certain personality traits.

As a young trainee and Spartan, Manuel wanted to be the best soldier he could be. His professionalism, competitiveness, and hard work ethic made him shine among Walter’s soldiers and Walter’s approval was perceived by a young Manuel as a sort of reward. During his early years Manuel carried out whatever orders were given to him and he was stubborn and determined enough complete the task at hand no matter the cost. It is only when he befriends his newest squad member that he begins to think of life’s value beyond military service and begins to reflect on his actions. It is here Manuel beings to morph from an unquestioning soldier to a person with his own free will. Just as he was beginning to imagine a life outside of war, traumatic losses to his squad at the hands of the Covenant quickly reminded Manuel that the war needed to be his singular focus. Almost as soon as Manuel broke out of his shell, he quickly receded into it.

By this point in time, the Great War was in full swing and Humanity was on the back foot. Traumatic losses like Manuel’s would impede most soldiers, but as a Spartan he was needed on the battlefield. In an attempt to manage it as best as possible, ONI and the Legion decided to fully integrate Manuel into ONI’s service. It seemed to work to lessen the blow, as less exposure to the Legion prevented any constant reminders of Manuel’s time there. It is here Manuel becomes proficient in infiltration and assassination, but his inability to quickly open up to others leads him to become a “lone wolf”. Although there were a few cases where Manuel surprisingly got along with non-Legionnaires, they were few and far between. What affected Manuel most during his time with ONI was seeing the Covenant’s destruction first hand and while on missions to assassinate leaders of the Covenant’s armies. These experiences, combined with his squad’s losses, would plant the seed for Manuel’s zealous embrace of the Legion’s ideology in the post war years.

Soon after the end of the war, Manuel returns to the Legion to serve under Walter once again. Upon hearing of their ideology, and already being familiar with the Legion, Manuel was convinced they were the ones that could really change things. When asked why he left ONI Manuel summarized his time at ONI as giving his life structure, but the Legion gave his life purpose. Such a willingness to accept the promise of purpose suggests Manuel was not in a sound emotional state. Given what he has seen and lost, it is not surprising that Manuel has leapt to Humanity’s defence in order to prevent such events from happening to others. The end result of Manuel’s zealous embrace of the Legion was that his fight against the Covenant resembled a crusade.

With his recent amnesia, Manuel is much more relaxed now than he was prior to the incident. His personality remains fairly similar, but he seems slightly more open with people in an effort to find out more details about his past. In this regard, he slightly resembles himself right before he left the Legion. He also shows noticeably less zealousness against the Covenant; no doubt an effect of the lost memories. Regardless of the results, it will be interesting to see how Manuel reacts to recovered memories but it is hoped that he can emotionally detach himself from them in the same manner he detached himself from orders in his early youth. The amnesia has brought about a level of emotional stability for him; after everything it would be shame for him to lose it. How he proceeds from now is certainly worthy of being monitored; future updates to come.

    Legion Roster Empty Miguel-325

    Post  Manny February 13th 2018, 1:13 am

    Basic Information
    Military Classification: Miguel-325
    Current Legal Name: Miguel-325
    Birth Name: Miguel [REDACTED]
    Alias:
    Birthdate: 2531
    Birthplace: South America, Earth
Species: Human (augmented Spartan super soldier)
    Affiliation: UNSC, ONI, Legion

    Physical Description
    Race: Mixed
    Ethnicity: Latin American
    Eye Color: Brown
    Hair Color: Black
    Height: 6’11
    Weight:
    Prominent Features:

    Equipment
Primary weapon:  MA5B Assault Rifle with an underslung shotgun
    Secondary weapon: 2 M6D Pistols
    Other: Energy daggers on wrists
Armour Class: MJOLNIR Gen 2, Raijin variant
    Armour Helmet: Raijin
Armour Color: White, yellow secondary, golden visor
    Armour Markings:
Details: The energy daggers have been reversed engineered from Sangheili technology, and placed on the user’s wrists to allow for more options in close quarters combat. His MA5B assault rifle is a more dated model, but is extremely useful in close quarters combat  with its high rate of fire and 60 round magazines. However do its poor accuracy at longer ranges, it resembles an oversized SMG more than anything else but that suits Miguel just fine.

    Relevant Combat Data
Specialty: Counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, close quarters combat
Notable Combat Data: Miguel is able to kill with frightening efficiency, landing multiple blows to kill an opponent before they can even react

    Basic Personality Traits
Disposition: Miguel demonstrates a strong love for combat and can be quite aggressive, brutal even, but rarely cruel. Outside of combat Miguel is more open than most Legionnaires but still somewhat shy with non-Legionnaires. He is also direct, impatient, and somewhat lazy to apply himself but can also be extremely loyal and trustworthy under the right circumstances.

    Political Alignment: UNSC, Legion
Notable Traits: Miguel has a strong brotherly bond with Manuel-324, and would do things out of character for him if it meant helping his friend

Goals: Miguel is content to be pointed in the direction of things to kill, only seeking to improve himself in combat. However he seems to care more about the happiness of his best friend than his own personal goals.

Fears: Miguel fears being handily bested in combat, his friend leaving the Legion again, and the day he can no longer fight

    Analysis
Miguel is a very talented soldier, showing an almost unnatural proficiency when it comes to killing. Much of this could be attributed to his natural talents since he is exceptionally swift, strong (despite his relative size), accurate, precise, and has very impressive reflexes even for a Spartan. Miguel’s killing proficiency is further enhanced by his studies of Covenant anatomy; over the years Miguel has taken notes to determine the fastest way to kill an enemy. Through trial and error, Miguel now has a comprehensive list of weak spots to target... complete with a personal journal of anatomical sketches. Clearly his talents lie beyond mere combat, but he seems to care little about applying them to their fullest. Miguel only seeks to improve himself should he see the benefits it has in combat.

Miguel’s self improvement being limited to the realm of combat seems to be a side effect of his life’s singular focus on combat. Since his days as a trainee Miguel was always among Walter’s better combatants, and took pride in it. Miguel came to love combat so much that he sought to spend as many hours as possible sparring. While this would have been alarming in a regular human, for a Spartan it was not seen as overly problematic due to the nature of the program. It was however worthy of monitoring, as it was thought Miguel would become Walter’s top Spartan. As Miguel aged observers were somewhat relieved when he began to show some sort of interests outside of combat, but were quickly dismayed when they realized he was only doing it for some sort of combat related application. His obsession with combat was becoming increasingly odd, even for a Spartan, but he remained a fully functional soldier so nothing was done. Thankfully it seems he enjoys combat akin to how athletes enjoy a sport, rather than as a psychopath who enjoys the killing. The hypothesis for his love of combat is that he feels naturally superior to most and does not wish to apply himself beyond combat because he is unsure of abilities there.

Further evidence of Miguel enjoying combat as sport is his personality when fighting. For starters, Miguel laughs as if marvelling at his own feats... not unlike newly augmented Spartan IVs in training. Miguel also frequently picks up Covenant weaponry and equipment, unafraid to try new things in combat although at this point they aren’t really “new” to him. Despite this Miguel will never comprise a mission because he strives to “win”, which generally means completing the objective to him, so he will use human weaponry when he needs something reliable to fall back on. Miguel also dislikes fighting Insurrectionists, but only because they rarely provide a “challenge”. Miguel’s love of combat has landed him the role of weapons and armor testing when not on active duty, which he accepted without hesitation. Although it is a bit concerning that Miguel sees the killing in war as part of the “sport”, as long as he remains as is there is no reason to worry.

Outside of combat, Miguel is everything he is not in combat. Where he is brave and tackles the unknown in combat, he shies away from new activities outside of it Where he marvels at his talents in battle, he doubts them away from it. Where he strives to “win” a mission, he shows little motivation for other activities. Where Miguel has no issue helping Marines fight, he keeps away from these same Marines on base. Indeed personnel find the change quite abrupt, almost noticeable as soon as he exits the war games.

Despite his abrupt change in personality Miguel could still be considered “normal”, as far as Spartans IIs are concerned, and is able to hold a conversation with most people if approached. However, Miguel can be very direct and impatient which has lead to many confrontations. His directness can sometimes come across as an insult, and his impatience does not allow him to properly understand why someone would take “a statement of truth” as an insult. Add in his love of combat, and Miguel has frequently clashed with those who lack a deep well of patience or the will to explain to him the errors of his ways. However he also has shown the capacity to display a strong sense of loyalty and trustworthiness, but this has only been observed once. Whether that case is an outlier or not is undetermined at this point.

    Relevant Combat Data
    Specialty: Reconnaissance,
    Notable Combat Data:

    Basic Personality Traits
Disposition: Curious, determined, strong willed, caring,
Political Alignment: UNSC, Legion, some viewpoints align more closely to Freelancers and/or Insurrectionists
Notable Traits: Has a love for learning and strong sense of family; teaching and looking out for her fellow Spartans (even if they don’t always want her around)
Goals: Seeks to save as many lives as possible, whatever the means
Fears: Tensions between Humanity and the Covenant flaring up to the point of another all out war

    Analysis
If one had to summarize Genoveva in one word it would certainly be curiosity. She enjoys learning about whatever she can and from wherever she can. Her curiosity also allowed her to expand her knowledge in multiple fields such as the humanities, science, military affairs, and many more. She is not necessarily an expert in any of these fields, but she makes good use of her Spartan education and the resources available to her to learn quickly and so is an intellectual “jack of all trades”. She is not merely content to simply learn on her own; she is eager to share her newfound knowledge with others. She does so by attempting to teach her fellow Spartans, or engage them in conversation about the topic, even if they aren’t receptive to it. If there is one thing she will not tolerate it is ignorance, but she prefers to teach than to berate. While her curiosity had greatly furthered her self-education, it has also shaped her in other ways.

Genoveva enjoys talking to new people, making her one one of the most sociable Spartans in the Legion, but it appears to be her curiosity that drives her to speak to new people. Even if she interacts with others with motives beyond sociability, it has certainly helped her improve to the point where she seems about a sociable as a regular human. The only thing that really causes her to seem strange in conversation is the above average number of questions she asks, but she seems to take note when she’s asking too many.

Additionally she seems to take an interest in the well being of her fellow Spartans, more so from a mental and emotional point of view. When she feels that something is troubling a Spartan she attempts to get them to talk about it and to understand where those feelings are coming from. At first it seemed that she was merely nosy, but upon seeing her continued interaction with troubled Spartans it became clear she was genuine with her concern. There are suspicions that she may know more about the mental psyche of some Spartans than even Walter himself. In these situations she restrains her curiosity when Spartans refuse to speak about their problems, fully aware that people do not reveal everything.

What allows her to be so curious and caring is perhaps her strong will. She is unafraid to seek out what she wants, whether that is knowledge or to help someone else. Furthermore she feels free to speak her mind, voicing her disagreement openly when she feels the need. The amount of independence she demonstrates is quite surprising given how much indoctrination Spartans receive and is definitely something that requires monitoring.

In combat, Genoveva is professional and efficient and nothing more. She sees combat in the way a regular person may see their day job; it is merely part of a daily routine. Genoveva takes comfort from the fact that she is making a difference in the lives of those she protects, but does have concerns that violence begets more violence. She believes the battle against the Insurrection will be won off the battlefield once both parties take the time to better understand one another. On the other hand the Covenant are a curiosity to Genoveva because she would rather learn about their society than fight it. However, her role as a Spartan dictates she fights them rather than learn about them and she accepts that because if she doesn’t lives may be at stake.
