Well, at first I presumed it would be a kind of Earth/Reachlike planet with blue skies, but the roving dust storms kinda threw me, so here's what I'm envisioning. The sky is overcast and grey with swirls of tan. It's mostly a desert with very few splashes of foliage. Imagine Mad Max but only slightly less terrible.

Morgan used the term "glass storms". So, was this planet glassed?

If so, I think it may kind look like Kholo in the short story/animation "The Return" from Halo Evolutions. What do you think?

I have no idea what anything looks like in Mad Max, apart from a desert maybe.

    Glass storm?

I'm unsure what that is. Either a storm of shredding glass, or a storm caused by previous glassing.

That gives me an idea for a setting if it's the latter. Maybe in front of the Gas Mine there's a massive patch of glassed land, so essentially we're riding on mostly coarse, blackened soul interspersed by roads of glassed earth where the plasma touched down all those years ago.

Actually, the idea of glass storms was brought about mostly because I wanted the planet to be 97% inhabitable for anything. If you guys want to speculate why the Covenant may have been responsible for glassing the planet and causing glass storms, be my guests.

Here's an idea. Perhaps the planet was the site of a small kig-yar rebellion a very long time ago, and in order to root out the pirates, the Covenant glassed the world and forced them out of their hiding places.

Since it happened so long ago, the planet has recovered somewhat, but there's still evidence, in the form of massive roads of petrified glass, in the middle of blue-green grasslands.

The Gas Mine is above a massive canyon, attached to both sides, having been erected after the rebellion was over. Between the Spartans and their objective, there's a relatively large field of grass.

The sky is somewhat overcast, kind of an unnerving grey. As the mission goes on, the sky slowly turns more and more orange-red as the glass storms approach. For the most part, the weather is pleasant, standing between 67 and 74 degrees.

The glass storms will be an unpleasant change of pace, for sure.

Well... There doesn't need to be storms to be inhabitable. The fact that the planet is glassed would be enough to make life unsustainable. HOWEVER extreme storms due to the effects glassing had on the atmosphere, wind currents, vaporisation of water, etc is definitely a possibility. With a Forerunner gas mine... Why would the Covenenat ever glass such a planet.

Another option is simply an inhospitable planet with extreme storms. The planet Hoth from Star Wars is a decent example, but in our case we could have a more barren wasteland like Mars?

An important question is the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. If the planet is inhabitable, then it probably won't have oxygen. If it is inhospitable it can still have oxygen but just have such adverse conditions that it's impossible for life to naturally arise on the planet. However intelligent beings with technology can stick around for a while.

I mean that the planet has extreme storm systems, pretty frequently. The gusts of wind can whip pretty much anything caught in them, that isn't properly attached to the ground, at dangerous velocity. Remember Halo 2, how the Gas Mine was surrounded by a storm? The Arbiter cut the cable to prevent the Heretic Leader from being able to hide from the storm?

I want those kinds of storms to happen frequently on the planet. This would occasionally cause the Spartans to need to take cover, and could potentially help them with numerous enemies from time to time. When I say uninhabitable, I mean that it would be highly unlikely for anything beneath a Forerunner level of advancement to be able to live on the planet.

There is plenty of oxygen in the atmosphere, but the Forerunner shields that helped bolster defenses around the facilities are slowly deteriorating, therefore allowing a few storms from the surrounding areas to come in to the playing field.

Of course, these storms won't be as destructive as the Halo 2 ones, in that you will be able to take cover behind a rock or something. If anyone has played Dead Space one, think of the part where you space walk across the Ishimura, with Meteorids crashing at your position. You either take cover, or you die instantly.

So uh, anything important going to happen on the way there or... Should we get to the gas mine? There are Brutes to fight, if you guys want to go ahead with that.

Even though I am DMing, I'm leaving it up to the others. The only thing I do as a DM is offer perks, help push the story along if it's dragging it's feet, or if someone isn't readily available.

If the next poster wants another encounter, so be it. If not, than I will give a minor post announcing their arrival in the general vicinity of the AA-Wraiths. Also keep in mind, even with the AA-Wraiths out of the picture, there is still work to be done.

The Spartan IVs will be helping you clear house, but in separate places around the 'inside' of the Mine. The Target and his Lieutenants will still be a priority.

Hm. He could arrive via a drop pod malfunction, and alert the enemy wraiths and ghosts to the good guy's location. That'd shake things up and kick off some open combat, instead of this sneaking around crap we're entrenched in. Heh heh.

We'll find a way to pencil you in, bud!

    Stealth are fun!

Besides, destroying the wraiths will take like.... Four posts? I'll do one where everyone is in position, Shadow does one where Autmn hijacks a ghost, you do one where John and Vance do a number on enemy forces, I'll do a final one where the wraiths go BOOM

I moved things along by having people in position. If you wanted to add some dialogue during the little climb, because it's kinda just Manuel talking, feel free to edit my post I guess.

    Otherwise, Morgan you're up.

New post was kinda rushed because I'm going out to dinner with the family. I feel it moves things along well enough. I MIGHT edit it, but all it will be Manuel fighting more covenant. Nothing changes in terms of plot.

So... where does this door lead.

I swear I have read the collab at least three times, and at the moment all I get is that there is just a door... there. No mention of it blocking a path, or leading into a building.

...Are we already at the mine? Blaine mentioned getting there.... Which implies we aren't.
